In the 1/16 finals of the clay challenger in Merida, Dmitry Popko from Kazakhstan will play against Thomas-John Fancutt from Australia.
Thomas-John Fancutt
The 29-year-old Australian representative last played two weeks ago at the dirt challenger in Rwanda. In Kigali, Fancutt qualified for the 1/8 finals, where he lost in two sets to the much more statuesque Marco Trungeliti from Argentina – 3:6; 3:6. This game was on the sixth of March.
Also in Kigali, Thomas-John Fancutt played doubles with Hunter Reese from the USA. Fancutt and Reese played very well together and eventually took the title. In the final match, which was on the ninth of March, Thomas-John and Hunter beat Es de Prajwal Dev from India and David Pichler from Austria in two sets – 6:1; 7:5.
Thomas-John Fancutt is currently ranked 749th in the ATP rankings.
Dmitry Popko
The 27-year-old representative of Kazakhstan, in turn, played well at the ITF tournament in Brazil. Popko showed very confident tennis on the hard court and eventually took a small title. In the final match, which was on March 17, Dmitry beat Harrison Adams from the USA in two sets – 6:4; 6:4.
After the success in Brazil, Dmitry Popko took the 250th position in the ATP ranking.
Forecast
In this match, Dmitry Popko is considered by the bookmakers to be the undisputed favorite. However, given that Dmitry will switch from hard to ground, it may not be the easiest match for a representative of Kazakhstan.
