In the semifinals of qualification for the tournament in Cordoba, Argentine Facundo Mena will play against Tomas Barrios from Chile.
Thomas Barrios
The 24-year-old representative of Chile, like many participants of the qualification, took a break after a trip to Australia for a qualitative transition from hard to ground. In Australia, at the Australian Open, Barrios played very successfully for himself. In the first qualifying match, Thomas beat Frenchman Alexander Muller - 6:3; 7:5. This was followed by a victory over Argentine Thiago Agustin Tirante – 6:4; 7:6 (7:1). And in the final qualifying match, Slovakian Filip Horansky was beaten - 7:5; 6:4. In the 1/64 finals Barrios played against Japanese Daniel Taro. It seems that Taro is not the most formidable opponent, but at the Australian Open he was in good shape, which Andy Murray felt for himself in the 1/32 finals. Barrios, in turn, lost the match in three sets – 6:7 (5:7); 1:6; 1:6.
Facundo Mena
The 29-year-old representative of Argentina, in turn, played a couple more challenges after Australia. In particular, this week Mena was in Bolivia, where he could claim something serious, but due to the density of the schedule already in the 1/8 finals Facundo decided not to strain much in the fight with Nicolas Moreno from the USA – 7:6 (7:4); 4:6; 1:6.
Forecast
Thomas Barrios is a stronger player, but the main problem for him may be a simple one in a couple of weeks, however, Facundo Mena is still far from the most formidable opponent, and therefore the representative of Chile should go further here.
