Samsonova is a 23–year-old Russian tennis player, the 60th racket of the world. Back in the spring, she was in the TOP 30, but in June she could not defend points for last year's title in Berlin, having already been eliminated in the second round. Of the high results, it is worth noting the 1/8 finals in Indian Wells and the semi-finals in Stuttgart. In Washington, Lyudmila started with a difficult victory at Mertens (7-6, 6-4), then won a strong-willed victory over Tomljanovic, and in the 1/4 finals she confidently dealt with Radukanu. In the semifinals, the Russian did not leave a stone unturned from Wang Siyu (6-1, 6-1), winning 81% of points in games on her serve.
