Yesterday, the 34-year-old representative of Spain confidently beat Juan Pablo Varillas from Peru in the 1/8 finals, while Ramos-Vinolas did not even play a full match and spent only 40 minutes on the court. In the first set Albert made a break pretty quickly and then thanks to the quality work on his serve, the Spaniard won the set with a score of 6:4. In the second set, the tennis players worked competently on their serve, but with the score 3:2 in their favor, Varillas refused to continue the fight due to injury.

The 26-year-old representative of Italy, in turn, had a difficult match yesterday against Spaniard Roberto Carballes-Baena, but in three sets he was able to achieve an important victory in the 1/8 finals. For Sonego, it was the opening singles match at the tournament in Cordoba, and therefore Lorenzo needed time to get used to it. As a result, the Italian immediately lost the game on his serve, and the experienced Carballes-Baena did not give his own and eventually won the set with a score of 6:4. In the second set, both tennis players already played the whole game without mistakes on their serve and eventually reached the tie-break, where Sonego turned out to be better – 7:6 (7:1). After that, Lorenzo finally gained confidence in himself, but Carballes-Baena began to run out of strength, as a result, Sonego made two consecutive breaks in the middle of the break and confidently closed the game with a score of 6:2.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Lorenzo Sonego played together in 2019. At the clay tournament in Rio de Janeiro, the Spaniard was stronger – 7:6 (9:7); 6:3.
Forecast
Considering that Ramos-Vinolas quickly beat Varyals yesterday, the experienced Spaniard has a lot of strength left.
