In the 1/8 finals of the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Slovak national team will play against Germany.
The Slovak national team has recently completed the group stage. On the 13th, in their final match for third place in Group C, the Latvian team was outplayed with a score of 5:2. Finally, in this game, the rest of the hockey players began to throw pucks at Craig Ramsey's team, and not only 17-year-old Juraj Slafkowski, which just helped to achieve success. In the first period, the Slovaks were the first to open the score in the match, but Latvia was able to quickly recoup. As a result, the teams left for the first break with the score 1:1. In the second third of the match, the Slovaks played more competently and thus they were able to score two more goals and keep their goal intact until the second break. In the third period, Mix Indrasis revived the intrigue and made the score 3:2, but in the middle of the final third of the match, Peter Zyuzin scored the fourth goal and almost removed all questions about the winner. At the very end of the game, Latvia trained a six-on-five game before the playoffs, which allowed Tomas Yurcho to score another goal and put a spectacular point in the match.
The German national team also completed the group stage on the 13th. Tony Söderholm's team fought with Borna USA. The Germans really didn't have the worst game, but in the end Germany lost with a score of 2:3. At the very beginning of the match, Germany was able to open the score in the match, Dominic Cahoon scored when drawing the majority. But, very quickly, the hockey players of the US national team were able to recoup. As a result, the teams left for the first break with the score 1:1. In the second period, the Americans quickly scored another goal, but Germany could not answer with anything. On the second break, the Germans left behind in the score, but of course they were not going to give up. Nevertheless, the US national team, due to a quick goal in the third period, still knocked the faith out of the Germans in their strength. Tony Söderholm's team tried for a long time to find their game again, but they managed to do it, and at the end of the meeting Tom Kunhakl was able to score the second goal, but Germany could not pull the game out.
The national teams of Germany and Slovakia play together quite often. Over the past couple of years, the teams have played five times among themselves and only three times last year. Slovakia leads with a score of 3 in this small confrontation:2. In 2021, Germany and Slovakia played exclusively friendly matches with each other, the first two games were left for the Slovaks (4:3 on shootouts and 2:1 in regular time, respectively). But the last game at the German Cup, which was in mid-November, was already left to the Germans, this match was won by Tony Söderholm's team with a score of 4:1.
In this match, bookmakers consider Slovakia a small favorite, but we believe that Germany is at least as good as Craig Ramsey's team, and therefore we still offer to bet on the Germans.
